The Youth Enrichment Instructor is a part-time, hourly position and is responsible for the development and implementation of a specific enrichment class such as coding, culinary, STEAM (science, technology, engineering, art and mathematics), and other general interest areas for youth ages 5 and older.
Education & Experience
H.S. Diploma or GED along with related college coursework and/or equivalent experience in childcare, education, recreation or related program is required. Stellar classroom management and communication skills, including the ability to clearly and concisely present ideas and concepts and tailor communication to multiple audiences. Must have the proven ability to establish constructive relationships and interact as a positive role model for youth and staff demonstrating the values of respect, responsibility, caring and honesty. Energetic, driven, creative and dependable professional with demonstrated leadership skills is a plus.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Develop and implement lesson plans within program guidelines and the program description.
- Provide effective supervision of youth that is age-appropriate, considers diverse abilities and interests, and meets program quality, safety and policy requirements.
- Create a safe, supportive, interactive and engaging environment for youth that is characterized by teamwork, camaraderie and inclusivity.
- Work with the Recreation Supervisor on purchasing supplies for specific programs within an approved budget.
- Maintain accurate attendance, instructional and other records as necessary to meet program requirements.
- Participate in team meetings and other special events.
- Set up prior to start of program and clean-up after program.
- Provide directions to North Suburban Special Recreational staff.
- Follow and implement PDHP behavior management policies.
- Assist in the development of behavior management techniques.
- Implement and document behavior management plans within the Park District guidelines.
- Maintain a clean and safe activity room.
- Maintain an organized schedule.
- Provide positive and professional communication with colleagues and customers.
- Report any problems, unsafe conditions, behavior issues and accidents to the Recreation Supervisor.
- Collect and maintain emergency forms; dispense District approved required medications.
- Take attendance and maintain sign-in sheets.
- Follow emergency procedures as outlined in the facility Emergency Action Plan.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Salary Range
$15.00-25.50/hour
