In 1964, The Park District of Highland Park acquired Highmoor Park with the support of Federal grants. The Park was named after the legal subdivision in which the park is located. In 1991, the passive park was formally dedicated as a nature preserve as provided for in the Illinois Nature Areas Preservation Act. Since 1991, the Park District has received support to continue to benefit the property.
